Disney XD: We Met Ironman!

If you have been channel surfing while watching TV, you might have noticed a new kids' channel on screens: Disney XD! Touted as a "boy-focused, girl-inclusive channel offering", you can expect to find adventure movies, animation and anime, sports entertainment on Disney XD, in addition to an exciting new Marvel series featuring superheroes such as Spiderman, Iron Man and Thor!

Are you excited yet? Noey sure was.

And he was even more excited when I told him that we would be heading down to Compass Point to meet Iron Man and play some games at the Disney XD launch event.

After psyching him up, I was a bit afraid that it would be a letdown but thankfully the event was a lot of fun.

DisneyXD1Already rummaging through the goodie bag, and not so pleased that Mummy made him stop to take a photo.
(You would think he would be used to this by now!)

We settled down in front of the stage in the atrium while a host led the kids through some games. If you know my little boy, you'd know he is usually rather hesitant to participate in these audience-participation-type events, but I was glad that while he did start off kind of sticky to me, he eventually joined in. And enjoyed it too, in the process. Naomi was just happy to follow along.

DisneyXD3Naomi: "One day, I'll be old enough to join in!"
Fascinated by volunteers on stage for a game of posing like Spiderman, Ironman and Kick Buttowski.

DisneyXD4The boys taking the pledge of allegiance to S.H.I.E.L.D while Naomi… checks her pocket for snacks.

DisneyXD5Web-throw like Spiderman!

After we were all sufficiently warmed up, who should come on stage but Ironman! Of course we had to have a photo taken with him.

DisneyXD6Noey's rather blasé latest "smile". He was excited to be with Ironman alright, though it might be a bit hard to tell!

Noey enjoyed himself so much that he was rather disappointed that the live portion of the event was over. "When is the next show?" he asked me repeatedly. He probably would have camped out in front of the stage except that I managed to entice him away to check out the activities that were happening around the stage as part of the event.

There are four games/activities for the kids. First up, we tried "shooting", Spiderman-style. The kids get to don a cool hand gadget and shoot bullets at a row of baddies. Hit four and get a prize!

DisneyXD7Trying to work his web-sling! Not quite strong (or accurate) enough to be Spiderman.

The Disney folks are so nice, you still get a token for you effort if you don't hit four.

Another interesting activity we tried was the green screen. Here the kids are asked to run on the spot for a while and then stop and pose. Behind the scenes work will be done to replace the green screen with an accelerator (I think). And when the clip is complete, it would be uploaded onto the Disney XD website for you to download. The demo videos looked pretty cool so I'm looking forward to seeing it!

DisneyXD8Keep on running, don't stop running...
DisneyXD9Strike a pose!
The crew were all trying so hard to get Naomi to do what was required that when she finally struck a pose, they all burst into spontaneous applause. Haha!

There was another game where you had to find the right keys to unlock the locks to some cages...

DisneyXD10"I really wasn't trying to steal this chicken! Honest!"

… but both kids' favourite was definitely the trampoline! To top it off, there are even staff on hand to snap pictures and later in the day, I received an SMS with the link to the pics. How's that for service!

DisneyXD11DisneyXD12The kids' official jump shots!

After we were done with all these, Noey STILL wanted to hand around for the next meet and greet but I had to tell him no. Well, maybe if we do have the time over the weekend, we could make it down to catch Spiderman, but I'm not promising anything!

The Disney XD launch event at Compass Point is on till this Sunday, 24 March, 11am to 8pm. Catch Ironman at 2pm and 7pm and Spiderman at 5pm! Meet and greet passes will be given to the first 100 families, with the queue opining 15 minutes before each session.

DisneyXD13Thank you Disney XD for a great time!

Disney XD the channel is available in the StarHub TV Kids Basic Group on Channel 310 and Channel 360(HD).
